There are some amazing people in this world, and sometimes they are our own neighbors. Years ago, I met one of those amazing people at a function to help underrepresented women. Her name is Rory Lee. On the day I met her, she had volunteered her services as a makeup artist to teach women and young ladies how to appropriately wear makeup for job interviews and/or to every day proper wear. As I watched her create her art, she did more than offer makeup lessons, she inspired the women and girls by sharing life-experiences and practical skills. I was touched by her loving, caring, and encouraging spiritual nature. That day, I connected with a spiritual sister and an amazing woman. Rory Lee is a makeup artist who has developed her own makeup line in order to help fund her organization, Our Girls Enrichment Program (Our Girls).
Rory, who has a background in chemistry, got into the makeup business because she had a passion for creating art with her hands and she also had another passion, giving back to the community. “Chemistry gave me an understanding of skin types and research.” Rory stated with enthusiasm. She said, “I studied makeup and I loved doing artistic things with my hands. I had a talent for makeup, in creating natural looks. I like making someone look absolutely fantastic by enhancing her natural looks.”
Our Girls is a non-profit (501c3) initiative program that helps young women (older ones too) to gain self-esteem and confidence through an artistic outlet – the art of makeup. The Makeup by Rory team serves our communities by providing workshops for girls and women to develop and embrace their inner and outer beauty while tapping into their own positive passions, purposes, and leadership ability (Our Girls, 2016). Rory has worked on many initiatives including volunteering workshops at the Kristi House, Project Gold, Ladies of Valor and Empowerment (LOVE), and the list goes on. If you want to check out Rory’s program, please go to https://www.facebook.com/OurGirlsEnrichmentProgram/?ref=page_internal . Rory and her team can be booked for special occasions such as weddings, multimedia, special events, photo shoots, etc., and can be found along with her makeup line at http://makeupbyrorylee.com.
Many of Rory’s clients noticed that Rory had more than an artistic gift, she had a spiritual gift to make others feel better while she worked with them. Soon, Rory was asked to speak to girls that had been in foster care, in trouble with the law, victims of crimes, etc. Rory saw this as an opportunity to help the girls by “Planting seeds of greatness…” and showing the girls different ways to support themselves, “It is priceless to see the girls turn their makeup art into a successful and viable money source.” Once many of Rory’s clients saw what she was doing, they started to donate money to help her with her community efforts and the Our Girls Enrichment Program was born.
How did this amazing woman get to where she is at today? Rory told me that she gets her strength from being a single mom and from her strong spiritual beliefs. Rory developed her own makeup line, Rory Lee (http://makeupbyrorylee.com/about/), several years ago and takes profits from her makeup line to help fund Our Girls. “Our Girls comes first because I am a philanthropist that makes people great. I still need donations, sponsors, corporate backing, and other sources to keep Our Girls going strong” said Rory. I asked Rory what her future plans were and she said that she wanted to go global with all her projects… that is amazing!
